Joining our Chapter

Thank you for your interest in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma).

There are two ways to become a member of our organization!

As a Student

Students enrolled in a nursing program and meeting the following criteria are invited to join through one of Sigma’s chapters located around the world.

Undergraduate students must

• have completed ½ (one half) of the nursing curriculum;
• achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher);
• rank in the highest 35 percent of the graduating class in scholarship;
• meet the expectation of academic integrity.

Registered nurse students must

• have completed 12 credit hours at current school;
• have completed ½ (one half) of the nursing curriculum;
• achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher);
• rank in the highest 35 percent of the graduating class in scholarship;
• meet the expectation of academic integrity.

Graduate students (master's and doctorate) must*

• have completed ¼ (one quarter) of the nursing curriculum;
• achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.5 or higher);
• meet the expectation of academic integrity.

*Students in graduate programs who are registered nurses, legally recognized to practice in their country and have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field, shall be eligible to be considered as a Nurse Leader at any point in the program. 

As a Nurse Leader

Nursing professionals not previously inducted as nursing students and not currently enrolled in a nursing program can also join as a Nurse Leader using the criteria listed below. 

Nurse Leader candidates must:

• Be legally recognized to practice nursing in their country
• Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field
• Demonstrate achievement in nursing

When you join STTI you also join a Chapter. You can choose which Chapter you join, and for a small additional fee you can join more than one Chapter. There are two ways to become a member of STTI and also our Chapter:-

As a Nurse Leader

Nursing professionals can join STTI as a Nurse Leader using the criteria listed below.
Nurse Leader Candidates must:

• Be legally recognized to practice nursing in his/her country
• Have a minimum of a Bachelors degree or the equivalent in any field
• Demonstrate achievement in nursing

 As a Student
Students enrolled in an undergraduate nursing programme, and who meet the following criteria, are invited to join the Chapter via the University link person.

• Undergraduate Students must be at least half way through the second year of the curriculum
• Achieve academic excellence eg. An average mark of 60% or higher
• Meet the expectation of academic integrity
• Have a statement of support from a practice mentor

Applying to join the Chapter

• Please complete the application form and email it, with a recent CV, to June Clark – contact details on the application form. June will then contact you with further information.
• Current membership fees are £75 per annum if you live in the UK (see STTI website for details of membership fees if you live elsewhere). Reduced rates apply to Student Nurses and to those who are retired.

Alternatively, you can apply direct to STTI Headquarters and join on-line, using the website. If you do this you will pay your membership fee in US Dollars.
